Participation

This course is graded pass-fail. There are several requirements to pass: participation, several writing assignments, and an end-of-semester portfolio. Participation is described below. The writing assignments and portfolio are described under separate tabs.

Preparation: You must come prepared to each writing session. You must arrive knowing what writing project you want to work on, and you must bring all related materials: assignment sheets, relevant readings and notes, and any draft you are working on. At the beginning of each session, you and the tutor will set goals for the day based on what you have brought. Sessions are collaborative, and both you and the tutor are expected to talk and focus on the writing at hand during each session.

Attendance: You must attend a minimum of 6 sessions with a peer tutor each term--a total of 12 over the semester. Each session must be at least 50 minutes in length. Please set a weekly appointment at the same time each week (the tutor can make your appointment recurring through our online appointment system), and when you choose to cancel or reschedule a session, do so online with 24 hours notice. Each session, you will record your goals and a session summary in WC Online. These entries will be the basis of your grade, so make sure to fill them out completely and accurately.

Grammar Option: The participation requirement for the grammar workshops is the same. You need to attend 6 hour-long sessions each term and 12 each semester. For grammar workshops, you must come on time, stay through the end, and participate actively in the sessions. When you are asked to bring materials, including your own writing, you need to do so.

Tutoring + Grammar: If you choose the grammar workshops, you may also sign up for one-to-one sessions as needed, and if you do the one-on-one sessions, you may also attend any grammar workshops; the 12 sessions in one of the two areas remains a minimum requirement.
